MARBLE, LIMESTONE, TRAVERTINE AND TERRAZZO

COMMERCIAL AND DOMESTIC FLOOR CLEANING AND RESTORATION

MARBLE FLOOR POLISHING AND SEALING

If your marble flooring is fading from dirt, scratches and exposure to the elements, it may be time to restore it back to its natural beauty. Cleaning marble floors is very important to maintain the freshness of your floors. You would need to seek professional marble restoration and cleaning services for the most effective results.

After many years many marble floors become scratched and stained and show signs of wear and tear. We are able to bring life back to even the most tired and damaged of marble floors.

The marble restoration process consists of a three step process that starts with grinding the surface of the stone with a course grade diamond abrasive pad.

The second step is to hone the surface of the stone with a finer grade abrasive pad.

Honing makes the surface of the stone very smooth but results in very little shine.

The final step in limestone cleaning is to polish the surface of the stone with a powder polish that produces the desired polished finish.

LIMESTONE FLOOR POLISHING AND SEALING

A limestone floor is actually quite porous and prone to scratching, staining and fracturing. It also needs to be allowed to breathe, instead of being covered by synthetic sealers or urethane. We can offer the right solution to protect your limestone by using highly penetrating impregnators which penetrates the surface of the stone but retains the natural colours of the stone.

The primary cause of polished stone floors becoming dull is walking on them, prolonged foot traffic grinds and packs in the dust, sand, and grit. Although the scratching that occurs is very fine, it eventually covers the majority of the surface and over time dulls the finish to the point where it loses its reflective properties.

To make your stone surfaces smooth and reflective, we employ the use of floor grinders and polishers.

The Limestone restoration process consists of a three step process that starts with grinding the surface of the stone with a course grade diamond abrasive pad.

The second step is to hone the surface of the stone with a finer abrasive pad.

The final step in limestone cleaning is to polish the surface of the stone with a powder polish that produces the desired polished finish.

Note: - Limestone floors can be laid with either a honed or polished finish

TRAVERTINE POLISHING AND SEALING

Travertine is a compact variety of limestone that contains various sized holes that are formed as a result of the continual flow of water through the stone. This creates bands that streak the travertine.

For those who appreciate travertine in its natural state, it is important to understand the need for specialised maintenance. The holes that were created due to the water running through the travertine over time are easy targets for dirt and grime. If left untreated, this can cause discolouration to the stone, detracting from its natural appearance.  Travertine cleaning and restoration ensures that both the exterior shine and the inner strength of the floor is restored and maintained.

Floor Care specialise in the restoration of travertine and can quickly fill all the holes with a repair compound that can be honed and polished to yield a beautiful easy to clean floor.

The Travertine cleaning and restoration process consists of a multiple step mechanical process using diamond abrasive pads and water. Generally this is a three step process that starts with grinding the surface of the stone with a course grade diamod abrasive pad.

After grinding the stone the second step is to hone the surface of the stone with a finer grade abrasive pad.

Honing makes the surface of the stone very smooth but results in very little shine.

After honing, the final step is to polish the surface of the stone with fine diamond abrasive to achieve the desired finish.

TERRAZZO POLISHING AND SEALING

Terrazzo is a combination of marble chips and Portland or epoxy-based binders, the surface layer of a terrazzo floor has extra marble chips that have been added during the installation process to cover nearly 70% of the exposed area, which gives it its elegant finish.

Apart from periodic restoration of the wear surface area, terrazzo will last forever.

Our terrazzo restoration process consists of a multiple step mechanical process using diamond abrasive pads and water.

Generally this is a three step process that starts with grinding the surface of the stone with a course grade diamond abrasive pad. After grinding the stone the second step is to hone the surface of the stone with a finer grade abrasive pad.

Honing makes the surface of the stone very smooth but results in very little shine. After honing, the final step is to polish the surface of the stone with fine diamond abrasive to achieve the desired finish.

When considering whether to clean or restore, we have a close look at your terrazzo surface, in most case if the surface as been dirty for a long period of time and subject to wear and tear for many years, then a full restoration would be the right approach, as cleaning would only clean the top layer leaving all the dirt and scratches accumulated deep inside the terrazzo pores and would not give you the satisfaction you would expect.
