Projects
Travertine is a beautiful and durable stone, but it can encounter several common issues, including:
Staining: Travertine's porous nature makes it susceptible to absorbing spills, leading to unsightly stains.
Etching: Acidic substances such as vinegar, citrus juices, and certain cleaners can cause etching, dulling the stone's surface.
Scratches and Abrasions: Heavy foot traffic and sharp objects can scratch or abrade the travertine.
Discolouration: Travertine can develop discolouration over time due to dirt buildup and improper cleaning methods.
Holes and Pits: Travertine naturally has pits and holes that can become more pronounced and collect dirt and debris.
Cracks and Chips: Natural wear and tear, as well as impacts, can lead to cracks and chips, compromising the stone's beauty and integrity.
Our comprehensive travertine cleaning and restoration services include:
Deep Cleaning: We use specialised equipment and pH-neutral cleaning solutions to penetrate the travertine and remove embedded dirt, grime, and stains without causing damage.
Polishing: Our diamond polishing process restores your travertine's natural shine and smoothness, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

Travertine is a type of limestone formed by mineral springs, particularly hot springs. It is characterized by its natural, rustic appearance with variations in colour and pattern, making each piece unique.
Travertine is a popular choice for flooring and other architectural features due to its durability and aesthetic appeal.
However, its porous nature requires proper care and maintenance to prevent damage and preserve its appearance.
How to properly maintain and clean travertine floors, follow these steps:
Regular Dusting and Sweeping: Dust and sweep the floor daily to prevent dirt and grit from scratching the surface.
Use pH-Neutral Cleaners: Clean the floor with a pH-neutral cleaner, ideally a pH-neutral Stone Soap.
Avoid acidic or alkaline cleaners as they can damage the marble.
Mop with a Damp Mop: Use a damp mop, not a wet one, to clean the floor. Excess water can seep into the travertine and cause damage.
Seal the Surface: To protect the surface, apply a penetrating sealer specifically designed for travertine at the installation stage. Reapply the sealer as the manufacturer recommends, or top-up the existing seal with a natural pH-neutral Stone soap.
Avoid Synthetic Sealers: Do not use synthetic sealers or urethane products, as they can make the floor look plastic, trap moisture and damage the travertine.
Use Doormats: Place doormats at entrances to reduce the amount of dirt and grit brought onto the floor.
Shoes Off: Encourage a no-shoe policy indoors to reduce dirt and grit. High heels, especially, can create holes in travertine, as travertine is made of holes if you look through a cross-section.
